Bridge collapse kills at least 8, injures 35 in Peru

At least eight people were killed and 35 others injured in a bridge collapse in Peru on Monday.
The accident occurred in the Peruvian department of Ayacucho, some 550km southeast of Lima, Xinhua reported.

The 50-meter-long bridge, 100 meters high over the Chavin River, collapsed when some 70 people, most of whom were students, were crossing it, reportedly due to lack of maintenance.

Six schoolboys and two teachers were among the killed, and 35 others were seriously injured.
The injured were taken to different hospitals, some of whom by helicopter.
