An officer of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) was killed in a car explosion on Wednesday in the North Caucasus region of Ingushetia, news agencies reported.

An explosive device planted under a black Lada went off early on Wednesday in the center of the city of Nazran, the regional interior ministry said, Xinhua reported.

The officer, who died immediately, was identified as an aide to the local FSB department's legal affairs director.

Last month, the Kremlin formally ended a decade-long anti-terrorist operation in Chechnya, but attacks targeting security forces and officials still occur in the region and the neighboring Ingushetia and Daghestan.
