Iran has launched production of Sijil-2 missile, Mehr news agency quoted Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Najar as saying.
New Sijil-2 ballistic missile could aim at the target successfully during a test in Semnan province on May 20. The mass production of the missile will be launched starting from today, he said.
Sijil-2 is able to aim the target at 2,000 kilometers of distance, Najar said.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said while commenting on Iran's missile test that he doubts that Sijil-2 missile has a new technology. BBC quoted Gates as saying that Sijil-2 is probably capable of aiming target at 2,000-2,500 kilometers of distance.
As a response to Iran's missile test, Italian foreign minister canceled a visit to Iran.
