21 Afghan insurgents killed, 18 injured - official
Clashes in western and southwestern Afghanistan left over 21 Taliban fighters dead and 18 more injured, officials said Sunday.
Seventeen militants were killed in the districts of Gulistan and Pashrod in Farah province Saturday night as the security forces came in contact with the insurgents, provincial governor Rohul Amin Amini told Xinhua.
Spokesman of the Afghan army in the west region Basir Ghori also said that four Taliban fighters were killed in Balamirghab district of the neighboring Badghis province on the same day.
According to the officials, 18 more insurgents sustained injuries in the firefights.
Taliban fighters who have vowed to intensify activities this year in Afghanistan have yet to make comment.
