EU to liberalize regime of visas for Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia: Italian FM

The European Union will liberalize the regime of visas for Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro, which will be followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, visiting Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said here on Tuesday, Xinhua reported.
"We hope that in a few weeks we can liberalize the visas for three important countries in the Balkans: firstly Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro, evidently without forgetting Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Frattini at a press conference with his Romanian counterpart Cristian Diaconescu.
He also said that Italy and Romania "are sharing the same ideas as regards the Western Balkans," stressing that Romania is holding a key role in south-eastern Europe, being an example of success for all the candidate states.
Diaconescu pointed out that the two countries have convergent positions in relation to the Western Balkans, supporting the accession to the EU of the countries in its area.
"We are happy to find out, as regards the Western Balkans and the European prospects of this area, that the positions expressed by Italy and Romania are convergent, both as regards the ways of cooperation with the states in the area as well as regarding the aspirations of these states to become full right members of the European Union," said the head of the Romanian diplomacy.
Frattini arrived in Bucharest on Tuesday for an official visit, discussing with his Romanian counterpart topics such as the continuation of the development of the enlarged strategic partnership, the Romanian community living in Italy and the bilateral economic relations.
The Italian top diplomat also met with Prime Minister Emil Boc, Senate Speaker Mircea Geoana and Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Roberta Anastase.
