Four Spanish firemen died and two more were seriously hurt battling a forest blaze in the northern region of Catalonia on Tuesday, a local official told state radio, Reuters reported.
The fire in the Els Ports National Park near Tarragona was thought to be under control but the direction of the wind changed, whipping up flames and surrounding the firefighters. Some Spanish provinces raised the threat level from high temperatures to the second highest possible on Tuesday.
