A suicide bomber blew himself up outside the international airport in the Afghan capital on Tuesday, but it was not immediately clear wether there any casualties, a police source told Reuters.
The airport is a combined civil and military one, and is used as a base by foreign troops fighting the resurgent Taliban.
The wail of sirens could be heard several km away from the airport that has seen a series of Taliban rocket attacks and a suicide strike in the past.
