Chelsea 3 - 0 Tottenham

Chelsea thumped London rivals Tottenham to move back to the top of the Premier League and continue their 100% winning start to the season, BBC reported.

Jose Bosingwa hit the woodwork for Chelsea before Ashley Cole headed home Didier Drogba's cross at the far post.

Spurs had chances too, and felt they should have had a penalty when Ricardo Carvalho clipped Robbie Keane.

Three minutes later, Michael Ballack bundled home Chelsea's second goal and Drogba ran clear to wrap up their win.

Manchester United had briefly leapfrogged the Blues at the top of the table following their thrilling win over neighbours Manchester City earlier in the day.

This derby encounter was nowhere near as eventful but underlined how much of a force Chelsea will be under new boss Carlo Ancelotti this season.

Tottenham, who only suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of United last weekend, demonstrated why they are also flying high at the top of the table by taking the game to their hosts in the early stages.

Indeed, after Bosingwa had smacked a powerful drive against the angle of post and bar from the corner of the area, it was the visitors who looked more likely to open the scoring.

Jermain Defoe should have done far better when he latched on to a ball over the top by Wilson Palacios but could only scuff his shot straight at Petr Cech.
   
Tom Huddlestone also tested the home keeper with a low drive, before Jermaine Jenas fired inches wide from the edge of the area after Nicolas Anelka lost possession.

But Chelsea, who have not lost at home to Spurs since 1990, gradually imposed themselves on the game - and having already gone close through a Frank Lampard header - Cole put them in front on 32 minutes.

The impressive Drogba found space on the right and whipped in a teasing cross that Cole met with a diving header.

Tottenham suffered another blow at the start of the second half when Ledley King had to come off after appearing to twist his knee as he tried to turn and chase Drogba.

The visitors were then left bemused by referee Howard Webb's failure to award them a spot-kick when Carvalho's diving challenge sent Keane, who was bearing down on goal, tumbling.

Keane was incredulous, chasing Webb and asking why he had not booked him for diving if no contact had been made.

Tottenham's sense of injustice was increased when Chelsea scored their second goal with their next attack.

Drogba's snap-shot was well saved by Carlo Cudicini but Lampard reached the rebound and turned the ball back across goal for Ballack to turn it in.

Five minutes later it was 3-0 when Drogba chased a long ball and Vedran Corluka's attempt to tackle him only succeeded in diverting the ball past Cudicini, giving the Ivorian an easy tap-in.

There was no way back from there for Spurs and it took an instinctive save by Cudicini to stop John Mikel Obi from adding a fourth.

Only a late calf injury to Drogba took the shine off Chelsea's day and, given the role he played in his side's victory, Ancelotti will hope it does not prove to be serious.

Spurs will also be concerned over Cameroon defender Sebastien Bassong, who was stretchered off after falling awkwardly and was later taken to hospital with a fracture cheekbone.
