Afghan police confiscate mines, drug in S. Afghanistan

The Afghan National Police (ANP) in a cleanup operation on Monday found narcotics and weapons in Taliban strong-hold Helmand province of southern Afghanistan, said a statement of the Interior Ministry issued here on Tuesday.

The Afghan National Police (ANP) in a cleanup operation on Monday found narcotics and weapons in Taliban strong-hold Helmand province of southern Afghanistan, said a statement of the Interior Ministry issued here on Tuesday, Xinhua reported. 
  
"Some 50 kg of opium seeds and 1 kg of opium were found in Garmsir district on Monday," the statement said.
  
According to the statement, 15 mines, eight mortars shells, 30 kg of white gunpowder were also found by ANP.
  
It also said that police set fire on those drugs at the spot.
  
In a separate incident, two militants were killed as their mine exploded prematurely in Panjwai district in neighboring Kandahar province on the same day on Monday, according to the statement.
