Afghanistan reports first A/H1N1 related death

A/H1N1 flu has claimed the first life in war-torn Afghanistan, a local newspaper reported Thursday, Xinhua reported.

The first A/H1N1 flu victim in the country is a 29-year-old man who died Wednesday in a local hospital, daily Rah-e-Nejat reported.

The newspaper quoted Afghan Minister for Public Health Syed Mohammad Amin Fatimi as saying that so far 58 positive cases of the epidemic had been detected in the conservative country where keeping swine, breeding and eating its meat is forbidden.

Out of the 58 cases, according to the minister, 50 are foreign soldiers serving in Afghanistan. Two out of the remaining eight are Afghans who had worked for foreign troops or international agencies stationed in Afghanistan.
