Afghan troops kill 5 Taliban fighters

Five Taliban fighters were killed and four others sustained injuries as troops raided their hideouts in Faryab province northwest of Afghanistan, Tolo television channel reported Monday.

According to Tolo, the operation took place on Sunday night in Qaisar district, during which five militants were killed and four others sustained injuries, Xinhua reported.

Quoting officials, the private television channel added that only one soldier was injured in the firefight.

Taliban militants penetrating in the relatively peaceful northern province have not made comment.

Spiraling militancy has proved challenging for both Afghan and the NATO-led strong-100,000 troops as U.S. President Barack Obama is examining his field commanders' demand to deploy more troops to Afghanistan.
