An magnitude-6.7 earthquake shook eastern Indonesian islands Saturday afternoon, but there were no immediate reports of injury or damage, meteorologists said, DPA reported.

The quake took place at a depth of 67 kilometres, about 152 kilometres north-west of Tual district in southern Maluku province. It occurred at 3:57 pm Jakarta time (0857 GMT), the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

On September 30, a powerful 7.6-magnitude quake struck off the western coast of Sumatra, killing more than 1,100 people and injuring hundreds of others.

A 9.2-magnitude earthquake on December 26, 2004 triggered a tsunami that killed more than 170,000 people and left half a million homeless in Indonesia's Aceh province on the northern end of Sumatra.
