Ten people were killed and two seriously injured when an bus skidded and crashed into a road divider in the northern Malaysian state of Perak, official reports said Saturday, DPA reported.
The bus driver was believed to have been sleepy during the time of the accident as witnesses claimed the vehicle was swerving just before it crashed crash, the official Bernama news agency said.
The bus was headed for the northernmost state of Perlis, approximately 300 kilometres from where the accident occurred.
Ten of the passengers died on the spot, while two were sent to a local hospital for treatment with serious injuries, Bernama reported.
Police detained the driver for questioning.
