Somali pirates have seized a Bulgarian-owned cargo ship with 25 crew members, it was announced in Sofia on Saturday.

Somali pirates have seized a Bulgarian-owned cargo ship with 25 crew members, it was announced in Sofia on Saturday, DPA reported.

A spokesman for Sodiak, the company that owns the Asian Glory, told state radio that the ship was captured some 620 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia on Friday night.

The vessel's crew included eight Bulgarians as well as a number of Ukrainians and Indians. It was carrying cars from Singapore to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

The Foreign Ministry in Sofia confirmed the incident.
