A total of 52 people have been confirmed killed by mudslides in the southeastern Brazilian town of Angra dos Reis, local authorities said Tuesday, Xinhua reported.
The bodies of two women were found earlier in the day in Bananal Beach, where a mudslide hit an inn and seven neighboring properties on New Year's Day.
The bodies are believed to be those of two tourists who were missing since New Year's Day. The number of deaths in the inn now totals 31.
Another mudslide hit the Morro da Carioca neighborhood in the same town, causing 21 deaths.
Search teams are still working on the two sites, as at least two people -- a woman and a child -- are still unaccounted for.
The damage caused by the two mudslides and heavy rainfall is estimated at 250 million reais (144.5 million U.S. dollars).
Floods and mudslides in Rio de Janeiro state, where Angra dos Reis is located, claimed 72 lives so far. In the entire southeastern region, the death toll rose to 87.
