Australian officials confirm Obama to arrive March 25

US President Barack Obama is scheduled to arrive next week in Canberra for a 24-hour stay including an address to the Australian Parliament, officials said Tuesday, dpa reported.

Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said the truncated visit would see Obama arrive from Indonesia on March 25 and depart Canberra the following day.

He would not be visiting Sydney, as originally planned, nor would his family accompany him.

"President Obama will be arriving on Thursday with an address to Parliament on Friday," Smith said.

The White House last week postponed the visit to Indonesia and Australia by three days to give Obama more time in Washington to push for health-care reform, which is the cornerstone of his domestic agenda.
