An engine driver was killed Friday when one freight train struck another train north of Madrid in an accident which temporarily disrupted rail links between Madrid and Paris, sources of the rail infrastructure administration Adif said, DPA reported.
One of the trains hit the other which had stopped while waiting to enter a station. The cause of the accident near Avila north of Madrid was not immediately known.
Alternative transport was organized for hundreds of passengers travelling to Madrid from Paris or from the north-western Spanish region of Galicia.
