The leaders of the 16 states which use the euro called Saturday for a permanent rescue system for members that run the risk of default, diplomats at a summit in Brussels said, DPA reported.

Officials said the European Union's executive, the European Commission, will propose plans to create a "European stabilization mechanism" on Sunday morning. EU finance ministers are to meet on Sunday afternoon to discuss the proposals.
