Rescuers search for bodies in Afghan plane crash

Rescuers searched Saturday for bodies from a plane crash outside Kabul, officials said.

"The area where the plane was located is having snow and rainfall, and it is taking time for the bodies to be recovered," Transportation Ministry spokesman Nangialai Qalatwal said, DPA reported.

"Many bodies have been recovered, but it is difficult to say how many as they are in pieces," the spokesman added.

The remains were being brought to Kabul for identification.

The plane, operated by the private company Pamir, was en route Monday from the northern city of Kunduz to the Afghan capital when it lost contact with air traffic controllers. It was located after three days of searching by Afghan authorities and NATO forces in a mountainous region 40 kilometres north of Kabul.

There was a remote possibility of any survivors among the 38 passengers and five crew members, officials said.

The plane's flight recorders were recovered and should reveal the cause of the crash, Qalatwal said.
