Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini on Monday said the Israel's attack on an international flotilla carrying aid to Gaza was "absolutely serious."
According to local news agency ANSA, Frattini said at Italian Foreign Ministry that he "absolutely deplored" the killing of civilians in the Israel's navy attack, which happened in international waters, leaving at least 19 people dead and many more injured, Xinhua reported.
"An investigation to find out the truth is very necessary," Frattini said, "we call for serious and detailed investigation and I believe it is essential that the EU is bound to be directly informed of the results."
"I think this event, despite its absolute seriousness, should not affect the progress of peace negotiations and the final solution for the Middle East," Frattini said.
