Lightning Chile led minnows Honduras 1-0 at halftime of their 2010 FIFA World Cup Group H opener here on Wednesday.
In the 34th minute, Chilean midfielder Jorge Valdivia threaded the ball behind the back of the defence to teammate Mauricio Isla, whose cut-back was bundled home by forward Jean Beausejour, Xinhua reported.
Honduras' best chance came in the 45th minute when midfielder Ramon Nunez unleased a curling freekick which was tipped over by Chilean skipper Claudio Bravo.
Both teams did not play in a conservative way. Attackings and counter-attackings were full of the first half. Chile looked superior in pace and composure.
