Liverpool prepare for Hodgson appointment

Liverpool expect to finalise the appointment of Roy Hodgson as manager of the Premier League club on Friday after the Fulham boss returned from South Africa, DPA reported.

Hodgson has been working as a pundit for the BBC's World Cup coverage, but he went back to England on Thursday evening.

After leading Fulham to the Europa League final, Hodgson has been a frontrunner for the Anfield job since Rafa Benitez's departure in May.

It is understood the make-up of Hodgson's backroom staff is one of the issues still to be resolved, with the 62 year old keen to take the Fulham assistant manager, Mike Kelly, to Anfield.

Meanwhile, forward Yossi Benayoun is close to finalising his move from Liverpool to Chelsea.
