A Filipino man survived a deadly attack at an aid compound in Afghanistan, the government said Saturday.

The Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs denied earlier reports that a Filipino was among the five fatalities in Friday's attack in Kunduz city, capital of Kunduz province, DPA reported.

The injured Filipino, identified as Joven Topanan, was being treated at the Provincial Reconstruction Team offices in Kunduz, the agency added.

Topanan was working for a US security firm that runs local governance and community development program in the area in cooperation with local authorities, the department said.

"The Philippine embassy is coordinating with Topanan's principal in ensuring his safety and welfare," it said.

More than 20 people, including civilians and security guards were wounded in the attack.
