German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in the South African on Saturday for a brief visit that would centre around the World Cup quarter-final between Germany and Argentina, DPA reported.
Merkel planned to meet the German players in their quarters after the match.
Her visit also includes talks with South African President Jacob Zuma and a tour of a development project in the Western Cape Province township of Khayelitsha.
According to the itinerary, she would in the evening dine with the opposition leader and Western Cape Premier Helen Zille, a descendant of the German illustrator Heinrich Zille (1858-1929).
