Fidel Castro all over town these days

After four years in near seclusion and ailing health, Cuba's historic leader Fidel Castro is suddenly making public appearances, dpa reported.

By week's end, he had made his fourth and fifth appearances within nine days, visiting the National Aquarium and dropping in on Friday at the Foreign Ministry to meet with Cuban ambassadors.

He warned the ambassadors of "serious danger" to mankind if there were an attack against Iran or North Korea, local media reported.

At the National Aquarium, which was celebrating its 50th anniversary on Thursday, Castro watched raptly as experts worked with dolphins, the daily Juventud Rebelde reported.

Castro, who will turn 84 next month, met with veterinarian Celia Guevara March, the daughter of Argentine-born Cuban revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara, and also spoke with several children and aquarium employees.

In recent days he has appeared on Cuban television and visited an economics institute. Castro stepped down from power for health reasons four years ago, after close to half a century at the helm.

The appearances came at a time when Cuba, under the leadership of Castro's brother and decades-long deputy Raul Castro, has been in the international spotlight after last week agreeing to release 52 political prisoners. Some of them have gone into exile in Spain, while others have refused to leave the country.
