Central America's leaders said Tuesday they were ready to reintegrate Honduras, which had been sidelined followed a coup last year, dpa reported.

At an extradordinary meeting of the Central American Integration System (SICA) the region's presidents approved of recognizing Honduras' new president, Porfirio Lobo, and let the country back into the Organization of American States (OAS).

Lobo was elected five months after the ouster of president Manuel Zelaya in June 2009. While SICA did not expel Honduras, it condemned the coup and boycotted the country.

The conference also vowed closer cooperation against drug crime and strengthen peace and democracy in the region.

The meeting was attended by all regional leaders, except Nicaragua's leftist President Daniel Ortega, who had demanded Honduras' boycott until Zelaya was reinstated.
