Russian runners Tatyana Firova, Kseniya Ustalova, and Antonina Krivoshapka took all three medals in the 400 meter sprint event at the European athletics championships in Barcelona.

The gold medal was narrowly won by Firova, who finished in 49.89 seconds, beating Ustalova by just 0.03 seconds. Krivoshapka took the bronze with a finishing time of 50.10 seconds, RIA Novosti reported.

Firova has secured the Russian team its fourth gold medal.

Another russian runner Maria Savinova won gold in the women's 800 meters.

The 2010 World indoor champion and 2009 European indoor champion from Russia finished the final sprint in Spain with the result of 1 minute 58.22 seconds.

She was followed by Yvonne Hak of the Netherlands, who took the silver with the result of 1 minute 58.85 seconds. The bronze went to Britain's Jennifer Meadows (1:59.39).

The Russian team has won eight gold, five silver and six bronze medals at the championships so far.
