Washington leads Fluminense to victory in return

In his return to Fluminense after nearly a one-year absence, Washington scored two goals in his team's 3-1 victory over Atletico-PR on Saturday in the 12th round of the Brazilian Championship, Xinhua reported.
The win provisionally places Fluminense in first place of the tournament.
In front of more than 40,000 fans at the Maracana stadium, Washington scored the game's first goal in the 21st minute.
After stealing the ball, Conca quickly crossed the ball to Washington who then fired the ball into the goal. Washington then assisted in the team's second goal in the 54th minute, rolling the ball to Emerson in front of the goal, firing the ball past Atletico-PR's goalie, Neto.
Washington then scored Fluminense's third goal in the 69th minute when Conca dribbled through the defense, finding the striker and then driving the ball past Neto.
Atletico-PR scored their only goal of the match in the 84th minute. Off a corner kick, Bruno Mineiro slammed the ball into the upper right corner of Fernando Henrique's net.
"Tonight couldn't have been better. I was hoping to play well, but I didn't imagine it would turn out like this. The fans were wonderful and helped us to the win. I was a little scared that some of the fans may still be upset with me for having left to play at Sao Paulo, but everyone was great and I was able to pay them back with goals," said Washington after the match.
Fluminense reclaims first place of the Brazilian Championship with 26 points. However, the team will have to wait out the remainder of play in the 12th round on Sunday, specifically if Corinthians can beat Palmeiras to claim the lead.
