Nepal's Supreme Court has summoned the wife and mother-in-law of convicted killer Charles Sobhraj over charges of contempt of court, local media reported Sunday.

A conviction against French citizen Sobhraj, 66, was upheld this week for the killing of a US citizen, Connie Jo Bronzich in 1975. A verdict is pending against him for another killing, whilst he is a suspect in a total of 20 murders across Asia, dpa reported.

After the verdict, his wife Nihita Biswas, 21, called it unfair and suggested "the judges have been bribed."

It is for those comments she and mother-in-law and lawyer Shakuntula Thapa have now been summoned back to court, facing a possible 10,000 Nepalese rupee fine and a jail sentence of up to a year.

The Nepalse Supreme Court has asked various TV stations to submit the video footage of Biswas and Thapa making the allegation.
