US sends money, equipment, for Pakistan flood recovery

The United States is sending equipment and 10 million dollars as an initial commitment to aiding Pakistan as it recovers from catastrophic flooding, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Sunday, dpa reported.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have lost loved ones or have been displaced from their homes," Clinton said in a statement.

At least 1,100 people have been killed by flash flooding in Pakistan's north-west province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Rescue workers are struggling to reach some 27,000 people stranded by the havoc.

Clinton said the US embassy in Islamabad was coordinating the rushed delivery of helicopters, boats, pre-fabricated bridges, mobile water treatment units, and emergency food supplies.
