A NATO plane is to fly to Pakistan on Sunday to deliver humanitarian aid to the flood-ridden country, the Western military alliance announced Friday, DPA reported.

"A NATO aircraft will conduct a humanitarian relief mission to Pakistan on Sunday August 22, 2010 in support of the flood humanitarian efforts in that country," NATO said in a statement.

The plane, carrying equipment such as power generators, water pumps and tents donated by NATO-member Slovakia, is expected to take off from the Geilenkirchen airbase in Germany and land in Pakistan.

NATO stressed that the decision to send a military plane over was taken "in response to a request by the government of Pakistan" and is to be carried out "in accordance with specific requests from the Pakistan authorities and in coordination with other stakeholders engaged in the humanitarian relief efforts."
