Scottish independence U-turn

The Scottish Liberal Democrats party signaled a complete shift in the party's long term policy on Scottish independence , calling it as an issue of the past, Press TV reported.

Tavish Scott , the leader of Scottish Liberal Democrats has announced that the party are no longer "open minded " in a referendum on the issue of independence .

The Lib. Dem mood swing comes as the Scottish Labour party has also adopted a u-turn policy on the referendum from 'bring it on' to 'keep it away'.

Currently the only Scottish party advocating to secede from the United Kingdom and becoming a sovereign state, separate from England , Wales and Northern Ireland is the Scottish National party (SNP).

The call for a referendum for Scottish independence has been claimed as being not legally binding by the UK government as the British parliament holds absolute sovereignty.

The Scottish Liberal Democrats currently hold 16 of 129 seats in the Scottish Parliament , 12 of 59 Scottish seats in the UK Parliament , and one of six Scottish seats in the European Parliament .
