Real Madrid finally off-load Drenthe, confusion about Van der Vaart
Real Madrid finally managed to off-load unwanted Dutch midfielder Royston Drenthe, just hours before the close of the European summer transfer window at midnight on Tuesday, dpa reported.
The Spanish giants announced that Drenthe had accepted a season's loan at newly-promoted Hercules, after having refused several other offers.
Drenthe, 23, joined Real from Feyenoord in 2007 for 14 million euros (17.78 million dollars) but has never been a regular starter at the Estadio Bernabeu and has never managed to impress any of the club's many coaches.
Real are still trying to get rid of unwanted midfielders Rafael van der Vaart and Mahamadou Diarra, but may run out of time in their attempts to do so.
It was rumoured in the Spanish media that Premier League side Tottenham had offered 10 million euros for Van der Vaart, but that the official documentation had arrived in London after the English transfer deadline, which was hours earlier than in continental Europe.
