Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki paid an official visit to Afghanistan this week.
He met last night with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Afghan Presidential Office spokesman Hamid Elmi told Trend over the phone from Kabul.
According to Elmi, the main goal of Mottaki's visit was to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss common positions at the upcoming U.N. General Assembly meeting in New York. He did not specify what "common positions" the sides discussed.
The sixty-fifth session of the U.N. General Assembly will be held on Sept. 14.
Iran has repeatedly demanded the withdrawal of NATO and U.S. troops from Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the Afghan government has also confirmed that the NATO troops contribute to maintaining a stable situation in the country.
