An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted Rat Islands, Aleutian Islands in the U.S. state of Alaska on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, Xinhua reported.

An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted Rat Islands, Aleutian Islands in the U.S. state of Alaska on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, Xinhua reported.

The tremor occurred about 9:27 a.m. local time (1827 GMT) at a depth of 226 km, with its epicenter some 2,070 km west-southwest of Anchorage, said the USGS on its official website.

No tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake, whose magnitude was preliminarily measured at 6.2 by the USGS.
