Placido Domingo, the Spanish tenor and conductor, plans to leave the Washington National Opera when his contract expires in June, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.
Domingo, 69, has been artistic director at the company for 14 years, during which time he has raised its profile, but he has also been running the Los Angeles Opera, which critics said has drained his attention to the Washington operations, DPA reported.
Domingo has extended his Los Angeles contract for two years.
