Special services have not uncovered any bomb on board of the Yak-42 Clobber airliner that made an emergency landing in the southern city of Volgograd over an explosion threat on its way from Moscow to Grozny, a spokesman for the Federal Security service said.
"The inspection of the airliner is over, no explosive devices were uncovered," he said. The airliner will continue its flight in an hour, RIA Novosti reported.
The plane with 73 passengers onboard left Moscow for Grozny at 16.14 p.m. Moscow time. Several minutes after the airliner took off an anonymous caller claimed it had an explosive device on board. The airliner was diverted.
All of the passengers are safe. They have been accommodated in a hotel, Volgograd region Governor Anatoly Brovko said.
The United States on Friday issued a travel alert for Europe warning U.S. travelers of a potential attack by Islamic terrorists, who might be targeting airports, tourist attractions and hotels.
