Czech industry shows almost 13 per cent surge in August

Industrial production in the Czech Republic powered forward by 12.9 per cent year-on-year in August, fuelled by the metalworking and vehicle sectors, Prague officials reported Thursday, DPA reported.

The national statistics office CSU said the industrial output in August was also 1.3 per cent stronger than in July.

Vehicle production in August surged forward by 16.3 per cent year- on-year, the CSU reported.

The comparatively less-important metalworking sector showed 26 per cent production growth in August compared with a year earlier.

The latest figures underscore the recovery under way in the Czech Republic, which is strongly dependent on exports.

In 2009 the country was hit hard by the drop in demand by important trade partners, particularly Germany, but has been steadly recovering since the outset of this year.
