Second trapped worker rescued from Chilean mine

Mario Sepulveda, 39, became in the early hours of Wednesday the second of 33 trapped miners to be rescued from the depths after an ordeal of over two months, DPA reported.

Sepulveda was in great spirits, joking with rescue teams even before reaching the surface, as he spurred them on in the last-minute efforts with the words, "Come on, come on, come on!"

He burst from the narrow Phoenix capsule, hugging his wife and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera, shaking hands with the circle of rescuers operating the machinery.

Spreading his arms and shouting to other bystanders, he was true to the reputation he gained during his ordeal as a lively commentator and dynamic personality who moderated the video broadcasts of life underground.

Then, laughing, he displayed bits of rock he had carried as souvenirs from the bottom of the mine, shouting "Viva Chile!"
