Anti-Putin poster hung in Moscow, no police intervention

Anti-government protesters managed to hang a poster against Premier Vladimir Putin directly at his government office building Saturday without security police intervening, DPA reported.

The group Oborona (Defence), which advocates free speech and human rights, said that two of its members scaled the White House government office building to hang the poster saying "Putin, Get Lost."

Oborona posted a picture of the feat on the Russian-language section of its website and expressed amazement that the two weren't stopped while scaling the huge, communist-era government building.

"We were surprised that nobody prevented us," the group said. It said passersby and some officials merely watched.

Anti-government demonstrations and demonstrators are usually brutally suppressed by police and special security agents, making Saturday's unthwarted action by Oborona was all the more noteworthy, local observers said.
