Sarkozy asks Pinera to help prepare French G20 presidency

French President Nicolas Sarkozy intends to work closely with Chilean President Sebastian Pinera in preparing the upcoming French presidency of the Group of 20 (G20) nations, the two leaders said Wednesday in a joint statement, dpa reported.

"The two presidents will work together notably on the issue of the volatility of raw materials prices and the innovative financing of development," read the statement issued in Paris after the two leaders met for talks at the Elysee Palace.

France will take over leadership of the G20 in November.

Sarkozy and Pinera also agreed to work together on reforming the UN Security Council so that it better represents current geopolitical realities.

They also said they would cooperate in helping establish a global organization to coordinate efforts to preserve the environment.

Pinera travelled to Paris from London, where he gave Britain's Queen Elizabeth II a piece of rock from the bottom of the copper mine where 33 miners were rescued last week.

The statement did not say if he also presented a rock to Sarkozy.
