Myanmar uses new flag, name, anthem

Myanmar has started to use new state flag, national anthem and official name as the country is gearing up for parliamentary elections scheduled for November 7, Press TV reported.

Myanmar's State Peace and Development Council made the announcement aired by the state radio and television on Thursday afternoon.

The changes had been prescribed in Myanmar's new state constitution published in 2008. The government however had not announced a date for their introduction.

The country's new name is the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, instead of the Union of Myanmar.

The new flag has a horizontal band of yellow at the top, dark green in the center and red at the bottom, with a white star in the middle.

There has been no official explanation as to what the colors or the star represent.
