US Treasury Secretary Geithner meets Chinese officials
US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner met with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan Sunday in north-eastern China, DPA reported according to state media.
The pair met at the Qingdao airport in Shandong province, and "exchanged views on Sino-US economic relations and the preparations for the G20 Leaders' Summit," official Xinhua news agency said.
The US embassy did not elaborate on the meeting. The Obama administration is demanding that China its currency to appreciate more rapidly, saying that the undervalued currency favours Chinese exporters.
Geithner was invited to China at the G20 meetings of finance ministers and central bank governors in South Korea Saturday.
A closing statement from the meetings in Kyongju said the G20 wanted to "move towards more market determined exchange rate systems that reflect underlying economic fundamentals and refrain from competitive devaluation of currencies."
