A suicide attack Monday in south-eastern Afghanistan killed three people and injured 10 while a roadside bomb killed two civilians in the southern region, officials said, DPA reported.

A bomber donated his explosives-laden vehicle close to a police checkpoint in the Tanai district of Khost province, said Abdul Hakim Eshaqzai, the provincial police chief.

"Two civilians and one policeman were killed, and five policemen and five civilians were injured in the attack," he said.

The injured were evacuated to the provincial hospital by police, the Interior Ministry said. It blamed the "enemies of Afghanistan," a term often used by Afghan officials to describe Taliban militants.

The roadside bombing occurred Monday in the Alizai district of Helmand province, the ministry said. The only other detail it provided was the death toll.

Also on Monday, a suicide bomber was the sole victim when he tried to attack a NATO military convoy in the Pul-e-Khumri district of the northern province of Baghlan, said Jaweed Basharat, spokesman for the provincial police chief.

The bomber detonated his explosives-filled vehicle before reaching the convoy, he said.

No group immediately took responsibility for Monday's attacks. The assaults, however, bore the hallmark of Taliban insurgents, who rely heavily on the use of suicide and roadside bombings as part of their nine-year insurgency.
