Sweden nabs suspected PKK member

Sweden has apprehended a man suspected of ties to a Belgium-based ring, headhunting for the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Press TV reported.

The suspect was seized on Friday in Stockholm after Brussels tasked security authorities throughout Europe with his arrest, AFP reported.

"Suspected of being a member of a terrorist organization," according to Leen Nuyts, a spokeswoman for the Belgian federal prosecutor's office, he had escaped Belgium's attempts to crackdown on PKK recruiters in March.

PKK, listed as a terrorist group by much of the international community, started fighting Ankara in 1984 for an independent state in southeastern Turkey. The conflict has so far claimed some 45,000 lives.

The terrorists are reportedly engaged in Europe-wide drug trafficking activities to finance their operations.
