Plane crashed due to generator failure, probe panel says

An aircraft crash which killed 14 people in Nepal in August, was a result of generator failure, an investigative panel said Wednesday, DPA reported.

The panel has said the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) indicates that the crash occurred after both the generators failed.

The CVR has recorded the voice of the pilot Laxmi Prakash Bikram Shah as saying that "both generators had stopped working in bad weather." It was the last entry on the recorder, according to the investigation team.

According to the plane's flight date recorder, the airplane crashed 10 minutes after the generators went dead, causing navigational systems to fail.

Fourteen people were killed when the German-built Dornier Turbotop 15-seater plane bound for the Everest region crashed during bad weather on August 24.

The passengers were five Nepalis, four US citizens, one Japanese and a Briton. The plane was also carrying three Nepalese crew members.
