There were two Tajik citizens in the MAZ car. After the accident they tried to run away but they were detained, a source in the Russian Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti.
Shamanov's car got in an accident in the Tula region on Saturday morning. The driver died. Shamanov was hospitalized. According to the preliminary data, the MAZ driver roughly violated the traffic rules by driving into the oncoming lane.
"There were two Tajik citizens in the MAZ car. After the accident they tried to run away but they were detained. At present, the investigation is udnerway", a source at the Interior Ministry said.
Lieutenant General Shamanov was appointed commander of the Russian Airborne Forces in May 2009 according to Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov's instructions.
Serdyukov ordered to render quality healthcare to Shamanov and people injured in the accident. The relatives of the deceased serviceman will be provided with support, the Defense Ministry told RIA Novosti.
