Charlie Sheen and his estranged wife Brooke Mueller both filed for divorce Monday, citing irreconcilable differences, People.com reported.

The couple said they separated on December 25, 2009, the day that Sheen was arrested following a nasty domestic fight, dpa reported.

Mueller is seeking primary custody of the couple's 1-year-old boys, while Sheen wants to share the twins' legal and physical custody.

The divorce action came as Sheen is embroiled in the aftermath of a drug-fuelled rampage that landed him in a New York hospital last week.

Christina Walsh, the adult film actress who locked herself naked in a hotel bathroom last week when Sheen allegedly went berserk, is to sue the Hollywood star for damages, celebrity website TMZ.com reported Monday.

Sheen was hospitalized for evaluation following the incident and was released the following day. No criminal charges were filed against the star of the top-rated TV comedy Two and a Half Men, who is reportedly paid 2 million dollars per episode.

Walsh has made no public comment about the incident but is incensed over Sheen's behaviour, TMZ reported.

"She's angry, she says, because she believes she was threatened," said TMZ's Harvey Levin. "She believes Charlie committed a criminal act."

Sheen's publicist, Stan Rosenfield, told NBC News that Walsh may be trying to cash in on the actor's fame and fortune.

"This woman trying to portray herself as the victim is laughable. If she feared for her life, why didn't she tell that to the police?" Rosenfield asked. "Anyone can sue anyone. She's clearly going after her 15 minutes of fame."
