Four foreign tourists and two hotel workers were killed in a gas explosion that demolished part of a luxury hotel Sunday near the Mexican Caribbean resort of Cancun, local authorities said, dpa reported.
Rafael Castro, mayor of Playa del Carmen, said that the 20 people injured were mostly hotel staff.
The explosion occurred in one of the restaurants of the five-star, 672-room Princess Hotel located on the River Maya. The building housing the restaurant partly collapsed.
A German diplomatic source said that the four dead tourists were from Canada.
