Prince Philip says he'll slow down at 90 - next year
Britain's Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, will step down as president or patron of more than a dozen organizations when he turns 90 next year, Buckingham Palace said Monday, dpa reported.
In an unusual public acknowledgement, the palace said the duke of Edinburgh would cut back on his commitments due to his advancing age. However, he would still be involved with more than 800 organizations.
Chancellorships of the universities of Cambridge and Edinburgh are among the posts he will give up. Other roles he will relinquish include that of president of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth.
Prince Philip is due to celebrate his 90th birthday on June 10, 2011.
